History
GMRS has roots in the old Class A Citizens Band service. It evolved into a licensed personal radio service that allows higher power and repeaters while remaining relatively easy to obtain (no exam). The current $35 family license structure has made it increasingly popular among outdoor enthusiasts and preparedness communities.
